PCB manufacturing data describes the bare board: its copper layers, holes, shape, and fabrication requirements. The following checklist covers typical materials for review; not every item applies to every board.
Start With the Board Data
- Gerber files. Supply the relevant copper, solder mask, and legend layers, with clear layer names.
- Drill files. Include hole data and identify plated and non-plated holes where applicable.
- Board outline. Provide an unambiguous finished outline, including any cutouts or slots.
- Fabrication notes or drawing. Include dimensions and any specifications that are not clear from the layer data.
State the Specifications That Matter
- Layer stackup. Include the intended layer structure and material requirements where relevant.
- Controlled impedance. Identify applicable nets or structures, target values, and tolerances where needed.
- Copper weight and board thickness. State the intended values, or flag them for discussion.
- Surface finish. Specify the requested finish if known.
- Special requirements. Describe relevant tolerances, panelization, material, or other fabrication requirements.
Keep Files and Revisions Consistent
Use one coherent revision for the board data and fabrication notes. Explain any conflicting or provisional values. Include the required board quantity in your inquiry; clearly distinguish individual boards from panels where relevant.
Package Your Files for the RFQ
Combine multiple files or native project files into one ZIP or 7z archive for the current RFQ. Use clear filenames and include the manufacturing outputs you have available. If you only have native design data, explain that in the inquiry so the available information can be reviewed.
The PCB supporting upload is optional on the current form. This checklist helps prepare a useful review package; it does not make every listed item mandatory. Missing production details may need clarification before quotation or manufacturing can proceed.
Need Assembled Boards?
Bare PCB data does not describe component sourcing or placement. For assembled boards, also prepare the information in the PCBA quotation guide.
