What Files Are Needed for PCBA Quotation?

A PCBA quotation brings together bare-board manufacturing data and information about the components and assembly work. Provide the applicable materials below, and flag anything that is not yet available.

Bare PCB Data and Assembly Data Have Different Roles

Gerber and drill data describe the board to be manufactured. The BOM identifies components and quantities, while placement and assembly information describes how those components fit on the board. One set does not replace the other.

Prepare the Applicable Files

  • Gerber or manufacturing data. Include the current board outputs and relevant fabrication requirements. See the PCB manufacturing files guide.
  • BOM. Identify manufacturer part numbers, quantities, and reference designators where available. Indicate parts not to be fitted and any permitted alternatives. See the BOM preparation guide.
  • Pick-and-place or coordinate file. Include reference designators, positions, rotation, and board side where applicable. State the units and origin convention.
  • Assembly drawing. Show component locations and clarify assembly details that may not be clear from coordinates alone.
  • Polarity and orientation information. Identify relevant pin-one markers, polarized parts, and any orientation that needs particular attention.
  • Special assembly instructions. Describe relevant fitting, handling, mechanical, or process requirements.
  • Programming or testing information. If part of the requested scope, describe the programming files, procedure, interfaces, fixtures, and acceptance criteria available or still needed.

Check That the Package Describes One Revision

Align the PCB data, BOM, placement file, and assembly drawing. Make exclusions and variants explicit. State the assembled-board quantity and explain whether any components or bare boards will be supplied by you.

Combine Multiple Files Into One Archive

Package the applicable files into one ZIP or 7z archive. Use descriptive filenames and identify the revision. The PCBA supporting upload is optional on the current RFQ; explain missing files in your requirements so they can be discussed during review.

Clarify the Scope Before Work Proceeds

The required information depends on the assembly. Programming and testing are relevant only when included in the requested scope. Kaconvo may ask for missing details before a quotation or agreed next step can be confirmed.
